I found a GREAT site called "Scoopit" which allows you to search the internet using as many search words as you want, under multiple search engines (such as Youtube, Google, etc.)! You can find videos, articles, pictures, the possibilities are endless! Once you have searched all of the information your were looking for, Scoopit puts all of your findings on one page with your choice of a page title. You can also look through the various popular categories that they have provided for you OR even scoop another persons' scoop! Its a great way to find and organize information :)
I decided to focus on the topic of "Flight" as this is a unit that is covered in the grade 6 Ontario curriculum. I found a bunch of useful, informative, and FUN videos for my students to watch in order to help them learn about the concept of flight. I found videos that explain the components of a plane, "in flight" footage, humans flying, homemade airplanes, etc. Under each video there is a small description that I wrote to describe what they have to look forward to in the link! My students will create their own Scoopit page where they will learn about search engines, how to use search words, how to find relevant information, and summarizing skills!
